The early years of the group started in the late seventies from a need to establish a presence in the housing estate. Members from two Baptist Churches came together with a mission to reach out to the masses living in Lorong 8 Toa Payoh. It was the developing of friendships and spending time together that won the trust of the residents. Friendship groups were formed to meet needs and to share common interests and hobbies. It was the selfless devotion to reach out, and the genuine demonstration of love through the pioneers who called themselves the “Neighbours Who Care” that finally bore fruit with nine candidates for baptism one year later.
This was the experience of a New Testament church where members came together to fellowship, pray and study the Word of God. It was not without struggles, but members learned to trust God, and spent time in prayer and fasting; and each time God answered by opening the door and showing the path to move forward.
